I designed and programmed MUSIC MD using Cake PHP framework for an Interactive Media Design class project at University of Washington Bothell. Music MD is a website that will analyze how the user is feeling through a series of questions and interactive introspections into the user’s thoughts and attitude. And then in turn it will suggest a music prescription (from Soundcloud) that will either fit their mood (such as if the user is feeling angry, then they will have aggressive music suggested in order to let off some steam) or suggest music that will help the user control their emotions and relax. In addition, it has a new music discovery side to the site that will expose the user to new music categorized by an emotional feeling that they choose.

Not only does my site provide soothing music, but it also has a “Find a Therapist” feature that shows the location of therapists and provides links their website and Facebook. Receptive musical therapy can genuinely improve the listener’s health in several domains. Health aspects such as cognitive functioning, emotional development, social skills, and quality of life can be improved. Traditionally, receptive music therapy takes place in a relaxed setting where the therapist plays or makes music to the patient who is free to draw, listen or meditate. And I have achieved a similar experience with this website.
