Beetles

Some animation concepts for the Beetle mechanic in Two Dots from awhile back. Beetles were complex to design because they needed 3 hit states, after each time you connect to them they change color, and after you make a move they move... So we did some subtle things with the number of dots on their backs to hint at how many hits they had left. When you connect to them, or they are in an idle state they open up and reveal the next color they will be. The direction they are facing also hints at the way they will move next.

We didn't end up making those sickly zombie beetles... I think they dropped slime after you cleared them. :P
