Down to the Wire Emblem Concept

Down to the Wire is an event in Wichita, Kansas that challenges film making teams to create short films, with certain requirements, within 24 hours. I decided to play off the race against time aspect of the event and draw inspiration from cars and racing. The featured element on this poster is a 3-dimensional chrome emblem combining a checkered flag and a film strip. The typography, metallic paint texture, and shapes are also influenced by automotive design. The 7 in the emblem, represents that this is the 7th annual DTTW. The 7 is repeated in the background as a design element, and gives the hint of a racetrack, as seen from above.
