Logo for "Big In Japan"
For logotype, I wanted the entire composition to form a silhouette of a Japanese character, something that would set a general tonality, and trigger unconscious memories of an observer about Japan; even before reading the words. To reinforce the concept, I was keeping in mind a kimono belt "Obi" the way the ends of it hangs under an angle and the flatness of the belt.
The ask from the client was to emphasize "BIG" for which I used capital letters and then colored them into the black. To emphasize “BIG” even more, with simple shapes I formed a silhouette of a sumo warrior stressing on the cultural and traditional popularity of the sport in Japan. The head of the warrior additionally emphasizes the letter “i” in the word BiG, and as a perfect red circle, it indicates on the flag of Japan.
