Recommending Books to Friends - Interface for ShelfJoy

Hey Designers, 👋

This was another USP of ShelfJoy that we designed and built for our users. We realized that a lot of us find books either by active and/or passive search.

- An active search is where we ourselves are finding books we want to read and we have one genre or author in mind while performing that search.
- Whereas passive search is when we find or come across a book when we're least looking for it. For example, you're reading a blog and you find a book or you're in a cafe with one of your friends and he/she recommends you a book.

While for active search, we either buy the book or keep a tab of that book in the tracking system we use (Reading lists on GoodReads or ShelfJoy, a notepad, Evernote - to name a few), for passive search we usually lose track of the books that were thrown at us randomly by the internet or a friend. To ease that process, we had a little hypothesis and the problem/solution statement was something like this: Wouldn't it be nice that whenever you come across a book and want to share that with your friend, you can go to their profile on ShelfJoy and recommend them a book so they can keep a tab of the books they got recommended (and check/buy them later)

This hypothesis led to the feature of "Recommend Books" on ShelfJoy. We design and built the whole feature in a span of just 1 week! And the team loved that sprint, I remember :) Although we never got around doing heavy A/B testing on whether this feature is actually getting used or not, but it was fun to design and build.

All the flows in the UX of recommending a book to a profile on ShelfJoy are added as screenshots in the attachments. Feel free to check them out + Leave feedback if you have any :)
