Proletaria the Satirical Socialist Boardgame
Welcome to Proletaria, where everyone is equal!
Everyone collects the same amount of rent on every space, you can't purchase any of the properties, and complaining about any of it will wind you up on a one-way train to the reeducat-- I mean the Peace Farm...
The concept of the piece is a sort of mirror to Monopoly. Monopoly originally was a critique of the capitalist system, but then over the years turned into a celebration of the thing it was made to critique. I thought it would be chuckle-worthy to see what a communist/socialist version of Monopoly would look like.
The board and pieces were designed in Illustrator, then laser cut from wood, and finally painted with acrylic paints. This was shown as part of "The Games We Play" exhibition in the Kelowna Art Gallery in the summer of 2017.
