Penguin Design Award 2014

Shortlisted entry for Adult Prize, Penguin Random House Design Award 2014 for Jonathan Coe’s 1980s social satire “What a Carve Up!”.
The aim of the project was to design a book cover, that would re ect the richness of Jonathan Coe’s writing to appeal to a contemporary readership.
My design replicates CRT TV screen close up detail. This concept was based on the main character’s (Michael’s) depression, isolation and his obsessive TV watching. The cover design as well as the letterforms were hand rendered to achieve a vibrant feel of the cover.
