Moses Rogers - Eureka
A piece I made for "Eureka! A California graphic design story" , a design exhibit @Amy Hood and I are curated and participated in for the OC Great Park Gallery. Show celebrates graphic design movements from the Gold Rush to present, as well as the unique California stories design served to tell. This piece is about Moses Rodgers, an African American man who was born a slave in the south, but made it to CA in 1849 where he taught himself and became a lauded mining engineer. By the time he died, he owned multiple successful mines, and was on of the very few people to actually make money and have success during the rush. People of all races looked up to him as one of the best miners in the state. There’s a lot of brutal and sad moments in CA history, but finding these glimmers of triumph despite the odds was really awesome.
