Weathernaught - Uplabs Weather App Challenge
I decided to challenge myself and participate in UpLabs' Weather Challenge (check out the details here: https://www.uplabs.com/challenges/weather-app-challenge).
I had kind of a limited amount of time to work on this, but the general concept is that of adding elements of gamification to a weather app. What if you could "bet" on whether or not (get it? "weathernaught"?) the weathe forecast would actually happen?
So there would be components of a Leaderboard, a profile, some social integration to compete with your friends, a lot of possibilities.
From a visual design standpoint, I liked the idea of large, abstract shapes that related to the ideas and feelings of being warm or cold, i.e. soft curves and frigid/hard lines. I also liked the idea of re-inforcing the temperature using color, hence the orange and blue gradients.
Definitely a lot of things to think through, constraints and experience-wise, but this is just a quick and dirty concept.
I made everything in Sketch and Affinity Designer and animated in Principle and Photoshop. Source files attached. Let me know what you all think!
