Socratic: Chat

One of the larger features I've worked at in my time at Socratic was one of our social components, chat. An overarching philosophy we have at the company is the idea that homework is inherently social, and providing teens with the ability to talk to one another while using our app and potentially work together to solve homework problems was a top priority.

Another interesting finding we've learned is that teens tend to rely on family, friends, and classmates when the internet fails them - this is the gap we hope to bridge.

Color, a staple you see in many teen-oriented apps, was a huge factor in these designs, as well as the shapes themselves (round and friendly). The feature was designed to be simple to begin with, but we hope to build more functionality tying our "single-player experience" of solving HW together with our "multiplayer experience”
