The first tale is set in Serenity, a small town in the west of Yonder which is home to the followers of the Cult of Truth. Deeply rooted in ancient times, the Cult is now on the brink of extinction because of the Restless clan. The clansmen have already eradicated ancient knowledge in every major city, and it is only a matter of time before they get to Serenity, the last bastion of this faith.
Used to a mild, warm climate, the people of Serenity devote themselves to gardening, farming, and fishing. The town is full of lush parks and blooming orchards. But most peculiar of all is the local tradition of wearing masks. At the age of seven, every child must go through the rite of passage and get a unique mask that, according to legend, will determine his or her fate.
It is here that the Boy, who is the main character of this story, is leading a carefree life, blissfully unaware of what the future has in store for him. Five years have passed since the day he got his mask. During the annual harvest festival, some strangers try to kidnap the Boy, but he manages to escape into the old forest. Shortly after, the town elders and his family find him there, on a moonlit glade. They tell him of the dreams they have had for quite a while – the dreams in which the Boy passes the sacred ritual of the Keepers. As soon as the ritual is performed, the Boy goes off deeper into the forest not to put his hometown in danger. Anxious to try out his newly acquired powers, he summons his Keepers – rabbits.
