Showpad for Windows: Sharing Files

Overview: Among other things, the Showpad app is a content management tool for salespeople. When a salesperson wants to share some files with a customer, they find the desired file in Showpad and send it off via an email.

Problem: While the majority of shares from Showpad are of one single file, we received many customer complaints that the process of sharing several files was confusing or time-consuming.

Key Insight: Salespeople know their content very well, and often share the same files frequently. They usually remember their favorite files' names or at least some keywords about the desired file.

Solution: This feature is designed for speed and the user who already knows exactly what they want. When a salesperson is already in the process of sharing a file from Showpad, they are able to quickly search for other files to attach right from the email compose form. The search looks through file names, tags, and even file text, just in case the salesperson doesn't remember the exact name.

While this feature is illustrated here for the Windows app, it was rolled out across all of Showpad's mobile and web apps.

My role: I designed the MVP of the Showpad Windows app in 2014. While Windows mobile represents a smaller segment of Showpad's monthly active users (4%), supporting Windows was important to attract the many large enterprise companies who supply their staff with Windows devices. In my three years at Showpad I was the sole designer for dozens of features for the Windows app, and am thus a proud expert of Surface tablets.
