Jackson Hole Snowboarder Magazine Design Elements
Our thirteenth annual issue of Jackson Hole Snowboarder Magazine is on its way - 96 glorious perfect-bound pages full of snowboarding, mountain culture, and social commentary.
I've been the Creative Director for the magazine for four issues now. When I first came on board we did a full redesign - we wanted to go back to the self-published roots of the mag as well as go back to the roots and soul of snowboarding. We decided to mix high and low: we used a super strange 80s hard-rock typeface called Fighting Spirit for all the drop-caps and titles combined with Adobe Caslon in a very conservative literary layout with beautiful columns and lots of whitespace. The result feels both luxurious and full of brash confidence - half zine and half coffee-table book.
