Theyyam is a colourful ritual dance of Kerala that attributes great importance to the worship of heroes and ancestral spirits. It is a unique combination of dance and music and it also reflects the main features of a tribal culture. This festival is celebrated as the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, who saved the land of Kerala from advancing sea.

Theyyam is always performed by men. Dancers perform this dance with the headgear and other heavy ornaments. They also enact female roles wearing exotic make up and colourful costumes.
