Total rip-off alert.

A lot of our internal apps have their own icons, but a number of them don't. For those, I wanted a simple, generic icon that could be displayed rather than an empty box. I thought of a number of different ideas, but when I came across the idea of taking Apple's iconic A logo made out of various tools, I thought this just had to be done. Another reason I think it works well is because the shape is so readily recognized already.
