Jerusalem

Jerusalem, the capital of Israel, is one of the oldest cities in the world. Contrary to the city’s name, which means “City of Peace”, it has been destroyed at least twice, besieged 23 times, attacked 52 times and captured and recaptured 44 times. Even today the city is a central issue in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. It’s also called the “City of David” because according to Biblical tradition King David conquered the city from the Jebusites and established it as the capital of the United Kingdom of Israel.
