Hellvetika "The Dark Crystal" Shirt Design

A t-shirt design for my drag persona Hellvetika, the 80's heavy metal bearded drag queen. The process for this one was LONG. I wanted to recreate a Boris Vallejo illustration style seen in 70's and 80's movie posters and album covers. Obviously I don't have the skill to illustrate something like this from scratch so I began with a photo (using dramatic lighting and posing trying to imitate the aesthetic) and then spent hours tracing, re-drawing, texturing, coloring, and filtering parts of the image until it resembled the era. The type is heavily inspired by 80's movie titles and heavy metal band logos. Definitely check out the full versions of this shot because I went a bit crazy with the detail.
