FamilySearch Simplified Registration

Through much user testing we were able to validate that FamilySearch is currently asking for too much information up front to create an account. People didn't understand why we needed so much information, and when we really looked at it, we actually didn't need all of the information we were asking for. We only needed that information if they wanted to use all of the features of FamilySearch, but there is a huge percentage of people not using those features that require that information.

This is a proposed design solution where we would instead ask for the bare minimum amount of personal information needed to just use FamilySearch. Then once a person showed the intent to want to use the features that required more personal information, we could ask for that information in a way that would feel like they were just getting started with that feature.

Check out Welcome to Family Tree to see an example of how and when FamilySearch could ask for the additional personal information.
