Redesigning GratefulGatherings.org - Part 3

Thanks to user research, I found that people were frustrated with the old website because they could not find information about upcoming events. People were craving a simple list of when and where events were happening so that they could mark their calendars in advance.

A big part of the project was designing the “Upcoming Gatherings” section, shown here. It needed to be easy to maintain for the non-technical cofounder, yet flexible for the various event configurations. As I found out through journey mapping exercises and alignment activities, some Gatherings are for single families while others are for multiple families. Some Gatherings are donation drives, while most others involve collecting and dropping off donations to a home, and so on.

Another constraint was sorting out user’s confusion about the SignUpGenius list of needs for each event. The nonprofit uses SignUpGenius because the platform is very popular with parents in the Bay Area, including both cofounders. While they used SignUpGenius for donations, they had other separate links for cash donations specific to each event, so I was tasked with finding the best way to layout these various items in a clear, concise list.

I was able to work with our WordPress developer, Jennie, to find a template that met our needs so that the cofounder could easily queue up events without help from the developer.
