DullesJustice.org - Part 1 of 3
Sharing a project that makes me incredibly proud… In response to Trump’s Muslim travel ban in January 2017, my colleague Dean Baker and I designed a website, logo, and brand identity for DullesJustice.org. The organization mobilized to offer free legal services to to refugees, individuals from seven majority-Muslim countries, and the media at Dulles International Airport.
The website was designed with several personas and goals in mind:
- Connect pro bono immigration lawyers with travelers in need of legal resources
- Help friends and family of detained travelers access legal resources
- Direct volunteers to sign up via a Google Form
- Provide resources to the media
- Provide ways for people to take action, such as calling Congress or donating money
Results: MVP wireframes and the logo were delivered within 28 hours of kickoff. Three days after launch, the number of volunteers increased from 100 to 1,200 people; half of the volunteers signed up for a volunteer shift via the website's contact form. At the peak of the ban, an estimated 5 to 8 people were receiving direct legal assistance per day.
