Minneapolis Logo + Mural
Last week I had the experience of a lifetime competing in Command X during the AIGA National Conference. For those unfamiliar, it's basically a competition for 7 young designers to complete insane challenges in short time frames, and then present on the main stage at the conference to three judges + a guest judge per round (this year was Louise Fili, Ashleigh Axios, Marian Bantjes and Joe Duffy). Then, the audience votes on who goes through to the second round (I did - and more to come on that in a week or so).
Our first assignment was to create a new logo for the city of Minneapolis. As a local: HOLY SHIT, NO PRESSURE. I landed on a concept juxtaposing the history of the city with the vibrant love everyone who lives here has for Minneapolis. Think: typography inspired by those who built the city decades ago, mashed up with illustrations that celebrates the community that support it today.
This is just one of the pieces I worked on. It features the main custom typographic wordmark and an idea for a mural that could act as a centerpiece for the culture of the city.
