Origin Story

I've been working on a new version of my personal site (jonnygotham.com) — working to re-balance my design identity with, for the first time, my actual name(s).

Background:
This new version is going to be a bit more nostalgic than anything I've previously created. I think it's because of the state of the world, my getting older, and thinking a lot about the first-generation immigrant experience of my parents. Perhaps it's a thank you, though I'm sure my mother will scold me when she sees it. We were always taught to blend-in and not make ourselves any more pronounced than necessary, I suspect as a means of survival. For me, this created a very fragmented sense of identity.

Design:
Asian typefaces are much more usable on the web now, so everything you see is handled via web fonts. There have been a few articles on the development of Asian typefaces for the web (the Typekit blog is a good place to start), and you can read more about the typeface I used here:
