Sorting Tool - Low Fidelity

A department at the University of Michigan asked me to design a user interface to make all of their publications accessible to the general public.

I asked the audience (medical researchers in our lab) what would be the most important piece of information when they would go to look for a publication. The (almost unanimous vote) said the date. So I first thought to organize the publications by year, as you can see in this low-fidelity mockup.
