Not Just Fleurons — ISTD

If they're Not Just Fleurons, then what are they?

This is my entry for the ISTD competition of 2011 and the brief called for the entrant to analyze fleurons. I chose to pursue a literal and humorous interpretation and looked to floral compendiums and medical journals from the late 1800s for visual cues. My take on the brief is a sarcastic, tongue-in-cheek pseudo-science, entirely fabricated and bordering on ridiculous, framed in classic book design. For this project I received a pass and an honorary membership from the ISTD.
