Product Prompt #8 on Product Disrupt Blog

Just to give you some clarity, an agency provides their services to another company in exchange of a pre-negotiated remuneration. Product-based companies also require the similar services in order to build and run their product, but they’ve their in-house team to do the same, so they don’t have to request for the services of an outside agency.

There could be numerous reasons for a company to have an in-house team or hire an outside agency to do the same work and both come with their own pros and cons.

For instance, an in-house team might feel more inclined towards the product they work on and are seen to take higher ownership of their work. Whereas, an outside agency might be working on a couple of products at any given point of time, which is why even though they might be very true to their work, they aren’t quite there when it comes to taking the ownership of their work.

I reached out to a few folks who’ve experienced working both at an agency and a product-based company. Here are their insights on the different working environments they’ve been into.
