28 - The Beguiled

Sofia Coppola’s latest film is a slow burning, impactful thriller set in an all-women boarding school in Civil War era Virginia. The surprising arrival of an injured Union solider on their doorstep challenges the lifestyles of each character in many different ways and through this, I thought the film tackled issues like isolation, repression, and power dynamics really well. The writing, performances of the cast, and the different age groups of all the women added a lot of depth too- you could feel the chemistry (and tension) between all of the characters all the way through.
