Kanji are all about radicals. You can predict what complex Kanji means simply by breaking it apart by radicals. This Kanji is for sex — and it is 性, which is combination of two radicals: ⺖ — heart, and ⽣ — life, birth. Does it makes any sense? More or less.

But some times it's just obvious. For example if you look at the previous shot you'll see the 火 (fire) kanji. It can be a radical as well in more complex kanji. What if we add some trees (禾) to the fire. Or it is more correct to say some fire to the trees. We will get Autumn — 秋.
