Antietam Cemetery Anniversary Illustration
This is an illustration I did for a lecture series around the 150th anniversary of Antietam National Cemetery. The main monument at the cemetery itself is a massive statue nicknamed "Old Simon" who is depicted as a Union soldier at rest. For this poster, we adjusted Simon to reflect the uniforms (roughly) of the three main conflicts covered by the talks.
I hand-illustrated the statue via a high-res photo provided by the NPS and then freehanded the outfit changes on to the statue with an occasional assist from a photo of those objects at a similar angle.
