Maritime Signal Flags for the Santa Barbara Yacht Club

We were recently hired to do a rebrand of the Santa Barbara Yacht Club and as a part of the new visual identity we included a custom alphabet of the maritime signal flags. The initial idea was just to spell out Santa Barbara, but we thought that by providing the entire alphabet the identity could be more dynamic and repurposed for any message in the years to come. The colors and proportions were chosen to match the burgee (flag) of the yacht club.

Attached is a version that spells out Santa Barbara and another that reads Dark Stormy—the most ordered drink at the club's bar.
