The Heart of Design
This is a new hanging wall art piece called "The Heart of Design" that I designed to live in the new Creative Market office.
The concept behind this piece was to represent the underlying process, culture, and nature of design work. The pencil represents impermanence, iteration, planning, concept, physical materials/medium, and emotion. The stylus represents permanence, decisions, finality, execution, digital materials/medium, and logic. The infinity looping nature of the piece can only be summed up like this: "Time is a flat circle."
The piece was created by laser-cutting out the base and top shapes from two sheets of wood. Next, we stained the base layer with eco-friendly walnut stain, painted the top layer with white paint, attached them together with wood glue, then mounted it up on the wall for the team to enjoy.
Special thanks to the talented folks over at MAKE ATX for helping us produce this piece.
