Search and Tabs

I am a big fan of hiding complexity in applications. A few concepts that I have played with have been a borderless search bar that grows from the top of a table its a great way to tuck away a secondary requirement that may not be used every day.

I was challenged by a college that this is adding an extra click to a search action, however the action of clicking on the search icon will not only grow the search bar but trigger the focus of the search bar in essence only being a single click. This spring loaded search bar is pure magic when combined with elastic search behaviour, it is a great way of delighting a user who wants to quickly see only orders with any search term.

Another concept for more advanced filtering was the use of custom tabs. This could let a user create a customer permanent filter that has just the orders relevant to what they are doing. Being able to jump between status or dynamic custom filter such as 'Only orders older then 1 day' can be a god send for busy warehouse workers.
