No it is not kana, and not Kanji, and not even Japanese. It's cyrillic «п». The first letter of the name of the town where i live and work — Petrozavodsk (Петрозаводск).

Some guys around found that late in 1710 Peter the Great borrowed a typeface from Dutch typo guys and made his own typeface where this letter first appeared. Then he spot the similarity with latin ’n’ and managed to redo the letter.

But this was a great symbol and a great story for Petrozavodsk branding concept because the town was actually founded by Peter the Great.

At the first stage of the project the idea is to ask local artists to produce the letter in their unique style and method, so i decided to contribute to the project with the Japanese style letter.
