Series 1 / Game 3

Back on home ice, the Jackets took it to OT. But the Penguins took home a bloody win.

Once again Period 1 belonged to the good guys. Atkinson scored only 11 seconds after the game started, a new franchise record for the quickest goal on the boards. The Pens equalized a few minutes later, but the Jackets answered with 2 more goals before the horn sounded for intermission. We were looking golden.

Unfortunately, the rest of the game consisted of the Pens clawing their way out of their deficit to eventually take the lead in the 3rd period on a Power Play goal. However, it didn’t last long. Dubinsky jumped out of the box and came back to tie it up 5 minutes later, pushing the game into overtime. After 13 minutes of intense play, the Pens beat Bob and made the series 3-0.

Tonight was a risky night to sacrifice the body. During the first period Pen’s Bonino took a puck to the face and left the ice. Luckily he returned later in the period. Werenski suffered a more grisly injury in the second when the puck was thrust under his mask during and Power Play and caused him to drop to the ice in a pool of blood. The gash below his eye was stitched up and he returned a period later with a full facemask, but by the end of the game his eye was nearly swollen shut.
