Series 1 / Game 1

During the last 2 weeks of regular season they tell you that once Series 1, Game 1 hits it is like a blank slate. And you brush it off a little thinking how much can really change in a few days? But then the puck hits the ice for the first time, and you just know it's like no other game you've watched this season. This is the Playoffs.

The first period was totally controlled by the Jackets. They came out ready to battle and made the Penguins work for the chance to touch the puck. The Jackets put 16 on Fleury, who was cast as goalie in the final seconds before the game due to Murray tweaking something in warmups, while the Pens had a measly 3.

Intermission did some good for Pittsburgh, who came out in the second with fire. They stopped focussing on muscle and instead directed their attention to speed. They scored twice in the first 4 minutes and wrapped up the period with 1 more making it 3-0 starting the third.

Calvert was the only Jacket to score tonight, but we had some solid attempts. As Dubinsky said, "It's a marathon, it's not a sprint."
