Hartman Coat of Arms

I recently designed a coat of arms for my family after the birth of my son. To get a little inspiration, I bought a few books on medieval heraldry and did some research.

I wanted the coat of arms to represent not only my family history but also my wife's. During the early medieval times, the joining of two coats of arms into one was a common practice called dimidiation. I liked this idea because it creates very unique designs.

The stag, or hart, represents my family where the sea serpent represents my wife's family (who are Irish with their last name meaning 'sea navigator').
