Game Highlights:
You know what they say: those with nothing to lose have the most to gain. The sentiment rings true in poker and hockey.
-The first period was money with 3 goals from the Jackets. But honestly, I never trust our odds when we start games like that. It is too easy to get high and fall down.
-The Sabres must have smelt my skepticism all the way in Buffalo because they came back and scored 3 goals of their own in the second and 2 more in the third. Granted the last one was an empty netter, but a goal is a goal.
-There was a moment there in the final period when it was 3-3 and Cam Atkinson looked like he was going to knock the puck in on a perfectly calculated PP. But alas the stars did not align, and Lehner blocked it with his pads.
-Speaking of Atkinson, during the second period he was stepped on by Marcus Foligno (good ol’ Nicky’s brother) and had to get 17 stitched in his left shoulder. Thankfully there was no nerve damage and he didn’t get guillotined. Like I said, he even returned for the third period to play, but gosh, that is my biggest fear come to life.
-The Jackets weren’t the only ones getting stitches this game though. At the end of the third period David Savard tried to hit the puck in from the right point and accidentally caught Sabres Franson in the face. He didn’t return for the final 5:39 of play.
-Ryan Murray was back in the lineup, but unfortunately he left the game after hurting his hand in literally the first few minutes of the game. Talk about not being able to catch a break.
