Owl - Graphic mark

What is the science behind our perception of cuteness? The answer is rooted in evolutionary biology. The prevailing theory is that it is because we are hardwired to recognize the youngest members of our species (or even other species) as attractive and strive to care and protect them in order to further the survival of our kind.

There are certain traits that characterize human babies which we consider cute. Big eyes relative to their head for example: Because humans are born with their eyes already the size they will be when they are adults. Big heads, small limbs, small rounded body etc. These are the objective reasons that also make us find small owl species almost irresistible. And the main thought process that led to the naming and graphic mark when we helped create the Owl Apparel brand.

The rounded and clumsy appearance of the mark, accentuate the innocent and cute appearance. Understandably the big eyes were made as main focal point of the logo. We liked them so much that we decided to mirror them in the custom typography.
