LGBT Credit Card Illustration

I worked closely with a friend of mine who is a member of the LGBT community. Through our collaboration, we both landed on a central theme – solidarity. Solidarity between members of the LGBT community, solidarity between allies, and solidarity between the two groups.

In order to convey this sense of unity, I chose to capture a scene that everybody can recall a memory of. A street that they grew up on, a town that they drove past, a city that they may be living in right now. I did the line work by hand emphasizing a feel that's more authentic, human, and personal. Minor imperfections are merely a reflection of myself.

I focused on the symbol of the rainbow flag. By itself, the flag represents a powerful sense of strength and pride, but as a collection, the flags signify unity and solidarity. By having multiple flags displayed on the street, and incorporating elements of the flag with elements of the town, I wanted to show how the LGBT identity can not only be a part of the community, but can also add, and enhance it.
