To Sharing the Seas

This year my parents' birthday gifts were a reflection of noted childhood memories or learnings in hindsight. My father's gift was a print of our family's sailboat, which he sold a number of years ago.

Growing up adventuring the ocean around our house was stuffy but an amazing way to see the world. I am ever thankful for giving me the feeling of wonder and exploration, which I carry with me each day.

The boat's name was Deliberate, taken from Walden by Henry David Thoreau. The passage is noted on the top right. The poster presents the vessel in profile and interior top-down, in its colors and registration when we owned it. This was scraped together using technical sketches from the designer, reference photos of sails and other builds of the same model, and photographs found in sale listings and family albums. The data below is the spec sheet of the boat itself.

This was a long time coming, but I am very happy the result and the crisp print done by a family shop in Portland, OR. Many hugs were given during its opening, which was well worth the effort.

Next time a loved one has a noted event coming up, consider closing Amazon and opening your favorite drawing program.
