One of my friends is a nurse who works in the NICU and she showed me what they are currently using for flow sheets. It was paper, blank, but it had all the fields I needed to make some specs out of it. I took the flow sheet into photoshop and tried to derive the most important aspects of the patient: where the baby was, if they were intubated, date of birth, things like that. Based on the information hierarchy presented in the paper flow sheet I then tried to translate that into a digital experience for a mobile user.
