Lucky Cranes
Here's my finished piece for Light Grey Art Lab's Fortune exhibition, which will be on display in Minneapolis through January 20th.
The crane or "tsuru" is a symbol of good fortune and longevity in Japanese folklore because of its fabled lifespan of 1,000 years. Cranes are also said to be masters at killing snakes, and natural enemies of evil. My design is a more modern interpretation of the Japanese "tsuru mon" crest, featuring three cranes encircling and defying a snake.
There's a lot of awesome work on display in the gallery, and each design is available as an 8x10 foil print, calendar, or greeting card.
