The Day I met My Grandmother

Shortly after finishing my military service, I told my mother about my plan to travel to Argentina. That same day, she had bought me a plane ticket. I guess she was excited for me. A major part of the plan was to get to know my grandmother, whom I had not seen since I was 3 years old.
The trip from Buenos Aires to Moreno, where my grandmother used to live, is one hour by train. However, the actual distance cannot be measured in miles. Moreno is a small town, with too many crumbling houses, hardworking people, and neighborhoods which are not recommended for lonesome strolls.
My grandma’s modest house was different from the modern houses I had known all my life. Still, after a few minutes I found myself enjoying a delicious bread she had just baked, listening to her stories, and also to those typical complaints old people usually love to share. She talked for hours, and embraced it.
I wish I could say that this visit brought us closer, but I will always remember that Sunday as a special day.
