Chevron – Coloured

My mother was a Quilt Artist, and you can see her influence in my geometric Patterns. While doodling one day on some Triangular paper, I began to experiment with the chevron shape and I quickly realised (like many people before me) there was massive potential for Pattern making within a regular hexagonal grid. Restricting myself to using only the chevron (the hexagons are the result of spaces between chevrons) and moving to the computer I began sketching out a few ideas in Illustrator. I had more ideas than I could keep up with – I was in that state that all artists and creatives wish for! The state of complete inspiration; where the work takes its own momentum. In this state, one can almost feel like a vessel or a channel that the art just comes through automatically. I feel lucky to say that I have experienced that sensation more than once in my life. In the space of 24 hours I made 50 or so Patterns which I made into a book with Lulu (see it here: www.bit.ly/jackchevron). These Patterns are to be cut out, coloured and used for all sorts of craft applications. I haven't done a great job of marketing it, and the cover could probably be better, but that's another story.
