Street Bison

We were invited to contribute new license plate designs for the state of Oklahoma and The Nature Conservancy of OK featuring our state animal, the bison. We have two designs in the running; one could be riding home on the back of your car very soon (if you live in the great state of OKLAHOMA).

I originally created this as a wood print about 4x2 feet. I think i’ve always been a little enamored by street art — stencils and spray paint — it’s all kind of fascinating to me. I love the overspray, the lack of perfect edges. This was all part of my exploration with the original design. I think bringing that into the license plate contest was about honoring the bison of our land in a non-traditional way. This design considers the ‘wild and free’ nature of Bison along with a nod to the street art world.
