Right to Vote - #TodayinHistory August 6
Part of a Today in History series. August 6, 1965: President Johnson signed the Voting Rights Act of 1965, establishing the right of African Americans to vote. Often told their polling place was elsewhere, forced to recite the entire Constitution, or denied outright, this Act provided people of color the legal basis to fight for the right to vote regardless of race, religion, or gender. The only way we protect our own voice is to stand up for all to have the right to speak up!
