Red Sox Scores: July 31, 2016

Going into the ninth inning, it looked like the scoreless Red Sox were going to be handed another tough loss by the LA Angels. Boston’s frustration was embodied in Dustin Pedroia’s argument with the home plate umpire over a borderline strike call in the fourth — which would have gotten him ejected if not for manager John Farrell rushing in and taking the proverbial bullet for his second baseman. Later, with two outs in the ninth, Pedroia belted an electrifying three-run home run over the center field wall to give the Sox the lead and eventually the win.
