Taylor University Art Department Website

As a faculty member in the Art Department at Taylor University, I worked closely with colleagues to create a working Website to act as a portal for internal audiences—faculty, students, administrators, alumni, and prospective students and their families.

The homepage, seen here, consists of simple straightforward navigation to “work”, “exhibit”, “courses”, and “alumni”. It also contains a slideshow animation with an overview synopsis of the mission of the department.

The Works page is not shown in this presentation but is a link to works-in-progress of current students. It was designed to be an online repository of student work where students can receive constructive criticism by both classmates, faculty, and friends of the department.

The Exhibit page was created to show a year-in-review calendar of the scheduled shows and exhibitions in the Metcalf Gallery at Taylor University. Also embedded into the page are URLs of exhibitors so that audiences can get a preview of the artists and designers exhibiting their work.

The Courses page was created to primarily show both current and prospective students the curriculum in the Art Department. The homepage for the courses in the department contain each major offered as a hypertext link to another index page with a listing of each course required for graduation in the department.

An individual course page was created for each course offered in the department and was created to primarily show both current and prospective students the curriculum required for graduation.

An individual course page showcases the Graphic Design course ART457 Portfolio I. Like each of the other individual course pages, the ART457 page contains a slideshow designed to provide a sampling of projects created in the course with title, type of project, the student name, and year the project was created for each of the projects. The link in this page titled “Enlarge” is a larger viewport of the smaller slideshow, which enlarges at the point of the image seen in the smaller slideshow. The X button (“close”) link navigates the user back to the same project seen in the larger viewport at the time of departure.

The Alumni page is a sampling “hall of fame” page that consists of a banner layout of graduates of the department. The page includes the names, professional work, residence, and link to their professional Websites.

I created the structure and architecture as well as the HTML and CSS coding using Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, and Edge Animation. It was a very huge complex project but was very exciting to create.
