Women Against Pit Closures

2011 marks the International Women’s Day Centenary. You are required to create a logo for the day and submit a body of work that explores a theme in relation to it.

OUTCOME
The theme I chose to respond to the brief with was Women Against Pit Closures. Women Against Pit Closures (W.A.P.C) were, and still are a group of women fighting for jobs, livelihoods and communities. When ‘The Great Strike’ of 1984-85 occurred, they were determined ‘not to cry about it this time’ and make a stand.

For the outcomes I created a publication that celebrated the women from the strike, and when folded out forms the shape of a pit wheel. I also modified their logo, created a full size banner, campaign elements and time based piece which all informed, promoted and celebrated the women from W.A.P.C.
