The Mercedes 300 SL Roadster (W198 II) is the convertible version of the 300 SL Gullwing (W198 I). SL stands for Sport Leicht (Sport Light) and is an indication of the street-oriented character of this sports car. Its 3 litre 6-cylinder engine produced up to 222 hp (165 kW).
The Roadster was available from 1957 until 1963. The 300 SL was an instant success and the interest for this car has never faded throughout its history.
Note that this image is a great companion to my other "Mercedes 300 SL Roadster" images.
