Bachelor Pad Living Room from “Boys Night Out” (1962)

James Garner/Kim Novak’s Bachelor Pad Living Room from “Boys Night Out”.

Love this late 50s, early 60s genre of movie for its showcase of mid-century apartment design. I dig it so much that I wanted to sketch the sets and some pieces from them. I guess it connects me to the “if only this was my apartment” dream, much like when I was little and wanted to be on the Star Trek bridge so much that I rebuilt it out of construction paper and various pieces of furniture.

This illustration only shows the living space, but every area of this $200-a-month (Yes!) apartment is incredible, including a sunken living room, floor-to-ceiling glass windows leading to a terrace, and a bar with a hidden switch-controlled sliding door wine rack

Style inspired by minimal illustrators like Malika Favre and Tom Haugomat
